Tasting Notes

From the family's plot of 100 year old vines on a mid-slope of the Grand Cru village of Oger that yields super-concentrated juice. It is fermented in oak casks for two years and needs the aerating effect of a barrel to bring out and fully express its complexity, especially on the palate. Strong, vivid yellow in colour with quite developed aromas showing yellow fruits such as peach rather than lemon or lime. On the palate, however, it is still quite restrained with delicate, complex flavours and a long finish.

Franck Bonville

Based in the village of Avize in the Cote de Blancs, Olivier Bonville now runs this estate. Olivier's grandfather was a grower, and the domaine has extended to cover more than 20 hectares in Avize, Oger and Cramant - all Grand Cru classified districts. Respect for the environment, meticulous wine-making and a long ageing process ensure Champagnes of finesse are produced. “All of the blanc de blancs champagnes from Franck Bonville are of excellent to outstanding quality, and the older vintages are equal to or better than Salon (the 1976 is better, and the 1985 is roughly of equal quality) but at a far lower price” DAN GINSBURG’S ‘THE ART AND BUSINESS OF CHAMPAGNE’
