Tasting Notes

Rockburn Twelve Barrels is exactly that. From all the hundreds of barrels filled every year, winemaker Malcolm Francis handpicked and blended the barrels that most eloquently speak of site and season, and exhibit what he enjoys most about Pinot Noir – subtlety, elegance and personality.

"Ruby red in color, the 2009 Twelve Barrels Pinot Noir has faintly floral lavender and rose aromas over a core of raspberries and dark cherries plus a savory soy and meat. Crisp, concentrated and tight-knit with chewy tannins, it has a long finish with the cedar poking through slightly. Approachable now, it should drink to 2015+." 90 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, erobertparker.com, #197

Rockburn

Rockburn takes its name from the rugged, rock-strewn landscape of Central Otago. The vineyards are bound on the west by mountains whose seaward slopes receive 5000mm of rain a year while to the east is a barren, moon-like landscape that receives less than 25mm. Rockburn sits between these extremes and produces Pinot Noir of stunning quality. Winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis joined Rockburn in 2005 after a four-year stint at the highl regarded Felton Road winery. Apart from honing his skills on Pinot Noir there, Malcolm also completed several vintages in Oregon, USA prior to joining Rockburn.
