Tasting Notes

Rockburn Wines Pinot Noir 2010 scooped a gold medal at the 2011 NZ International Wine Show. Rockburn's winemaker, Malcolm Rees-Francis, commented, "The prevailing opinion locally is that the 2009 and 2010 vintages are a rare pairing of very high quality years; this gold medal is the first for our 2010 and is a strong signal it will follow in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessor which is still being widely enjoyed today."

A consistent performer, this wine is "very deeply fruited with delicate floral tones enhanced by nuances of dark chocolate, and supple, lithe tannins leading into a very long finish...classic Rockburn elegance, integrity and balance."

Rockburn

Rockburn takes its name from the rugged, rock-strewn landscape of Central Otago. The vineyards are bound on the west by mountains whose seaward slopes receive 5000mm of rain a year while to the east is a barren, moon-like landscape that receives less than 25mm. Rockburn sits between these extremes and produces Pinot Noir of stunning quality. Winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis joined Rockburn in 2005 after a four-year stint at the highl regarded Felton Road winery. Apart from honing his skills on Pinot Noir there, Malcolm also completed several vintages in Oregon, USA prior to joining Rockburn.
