Tasting Notes

This is the new vintage of a fine sparkling wine made from Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir (Method Champenoise). Salmon pink in colour with a full, soft mousse palate and fine persistent bubbles. Strawberry and cherry aromas, and some biscuit / bready complexity. Great length, purity and freshness.

We await reviews of the 2009. The 2008, however, was described as follows:

“Bright pink; high quality pinot provides an array of strawberry and spice flavours; excellent balance and length…” 94 points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011

“Ashton Hills is one of Australia’s finest sparkling roses and also one of its best value. Extended ageing on lees contributes biscuity complexity to its gentle strawberry hull and red cherry guise. It’s a delicate, pretty style with great mineraity.” Tyson Stelzer, Wine 100

Ashton Hills

Ashton Hills Vineyard lies below the summit of Mount Lofty on a ridge-top overlooking the Piccadilly Valley. Here in the Adelaide Hills, the cool, yet sunny and humid climate produces crisp, finely flavoured table and sparkling wines. Stephen George established his vineyard in 1981 and produced his first wines in 1987. His wines are very French in style, especially the Pinot Noirs for which Stephen is most highly regarded. The Galah range is Stephen's second label with fruit sourced from the Clare Valley and Mount Lofty Ranges.
