Tasting Notes
*THIS OFFER INCLUDES FOUR OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING WINES IN THE DOZEN*
CHABLIS, FRANCE - Domaine Billaud Simon, Chablis 2007
This is mainline, classical Chablis with plenty of weight without any feeling of heaviness. Bright, clean and perfectly poised.
“Bernard Billaud told me that 2007 was a "completely classic vintage and it's better than 2004, both in terms of overall quality and as a classically styled vintage…”
Tasting note: A completely classic Chablis nose of iodine-infused green fruit with a subtle saline influence that is also picked up by the concentrated, racy, pure and bone dry flavors that offer ample vivacity and finishing acid punch where the citrus component really shines. Fine quality at this level.
(88 Points - Drink 2011+ Allen Meadows - Burghound)
CHABLIS, FRANCE - Domaine Moreau Naudet, Chablis 2007
The fruit, minerality and acidity are all well balanced in this wine. There is good density and freshness with a bit of tingle.
“The 2007’s are even more classic than 2004, richer and fuller yet with just as much elegance, balance and transparency…”
Tasting note: This too sports an entirely classic and pure Chablis nose with its green fruit, iodine and oyster shell nuances that are also reflected by the impressively concentrated, racy and intense flavors that are supported by a firm core of lemon infused acidity and excellent length. An old school Chablis that is recommended.
(Outstanding top value - 87-89 Points - Drink 2011+ Allen Meadows - Burghound)
RHONE VALLEY, FRANCE - Domaine la Remejeanne, Cotes Du Rhone Blanc Les Arbousiers 2007
Remy Klein produced this excellent white on the assembly of Roussanne, Viognier, Clairette, Marsanne and Bourboulenc. It was aged for 6 months on lees with regular stirring. Roundness, balance and intense aromas characterize this beautifully elegant wine.
Notes on the winery:
“No one... ever paid much attention to the wines of the out-of-the-way village of Sabran – until a careful, thoughtful winemaker like Rémy Klein came along.” Andrew Jefford, The New France
“Proprietor Rémy Klein is one of the most consistently top-flight winemakers among the Côtes du Rhone producers.” Robert Parker, eRobertParker.com
“With a remarkable love of a job well done, Rémy Klein has shown over many years the potential of the terroir on the left bank of the Rhône.” Bettane & Desseauve, Le Grand Guide des Vins de France, 2009
“Klein laughingly dismisses the suggestion that he adheres to a winemaking philosophy. It occurs to me that this makes him, perhaps, the best kind of winemaker: committed, yet completely open-minded.” Beverley Blanning MW, Decanter
