Tasting Notes
Tapanappa 2009 Foggy Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir is of medium colour intensity and is cerise in hue. The aromas are initially delicate and ethereal hinting at roses and their freshly cut stalks. More complex aromas emerge of dark chocolate and mocha and preserved cherries with a hint of anise. The flavours are sweet spicy and delicate and are poised against the tannin and acid in a savoury and linear structure. The alcohol remains unnoticed against the delicate but exotic water born flavours, the significant tannins and acid, beyond which the flavours are persistent.
This the third exciting wine of the new Pinot Noir terroir at Maylands Farm at Parawa at the apex of the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia. The style of the 2009 Foggy Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir is a more natural reflection of the terroir in a cooler year compared to the opulent 2008.
"Brian Croser has nailed pinot noir in record time with his new Fleurieu vineyard. Cherry to plum aromas, with subtle background oak. The tannins provide backbone and authority, and good persistence. A pinot of richness and gravitas." 95 Points - Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine
"Young vine Pinot rarely flatters, but these six-year-old vines are finding their place. The cooler 2009 season provided tart acidity which underlines lifted rose petal perfume and precise red cherry palate. It's honed, fresh and expressive." 93 Points - Tyson Stelzer, WBM Magazine
"Well I suppose if you have to have one you might as well have a good one: lovely cork. Creamy caramel tinged oak and a mix of cherry, plum and raspberry fruit with a slight rosy fragrance. Mid-weight with a pleasing sense of dryness and a subtle minerality that’s often not found in local Pinot. Silky smooth tannin rides with a sidecar of subtle stalkiness. Good length of flavour. Perhaps some young vine dilution, but the overall feel and impression is positive. Took a couple of days to open up and flesh out. Best release to date I’d say." 93 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Tapanappa
Tapanappa winery is named after a 550 million year old geological formation that underlies the Fleurieu Peninsula where the Croser family have a sheep farm and vineyard. Tapanappa combines “old vines, new terroirs, experienced winemaking and energetic skilled young management.” Brian Croser founded Petaluma with his wife Ann in 1976, and in 1978 they pioneered the development of the modern Adelaide Hills viticultural region. At Petaluma, Brian developed his “distinguished site” philosophy, discovering unique sites in the Piccadilly Valley and Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills, and in the Clare Valley and Coonawarra. Brian remains committed to the development of new cool climate “distinguished sites” for specific varieties, his latest pioneering planting being the Pinot Noir at Foggy Hill Vineyard, Parawa on the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula.
