Bodegas Carchelo
BODEGAS CARCHELO is located in Carche Valley near Jumilla, Spain's most arid wine region. At elevation levels as high as 700 meters, the vineyards are planted on rocky, but fertile soil with little vegetation. This part of Spain near the Mediterranean sea is increasingly known for its unique, high quality wines, fruity and well balanced.
A lifelong Jumilla wine trade personality, Agapito Rico began developing his own vineyards in the area in the early 1980’s, following detailed climate and soil studies. Complementing existing old-vine Monastrell (Mourvèdre) are more recent plantings of Merlot, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Agapito revolutionized Jumilla with his fresh, concentrated young Carchelo reds beginning with the 1993 vintage.
