Product Profile
Massolino Barolo Vigna Rionda DOCG 2005
Full bodied, dry, red, 100% Nebbiolo. Cellar. 14% alc.
Tasting Notes
The Vigna Rionda vineyard is considered one of the top vineyards (if not the top vineyard) of Serralunga d'Alba. The soil is calcarious and less clayey than many neighbouring vineyards, contributing to the structure and longevity of Vigna Rionda wines.
My first note upon tasting this recently was "Put in cellar". Even though it is released after six years it will only open up now slowly, and after decanting. Pure Barolo with very fine tannins, it cries out for red meat or game.
Producer
Massolino
Founded in 1896, Massolino Winery, is based in and around the town of Serralunga, one of the prime sub-zones of the Barolo DOC. Massolino’s vineyards occupy some of the prime “crus” on the slopes of this sub zone, including Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda.
The Massolino wines walk the tightrope between the old world and the new - pure, precise and vibrant yet distinctly regional - and they are well priced in comparison with the other top producers of the region.
