Domaine Billaud Simon, Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu 2007
Light-Medium Bodied, Dry, White, Chardonnay, Drink now or cellar, 13% alc.
The 2007 Chablis 1er cru Mont de Milieu has a compelling spicy bouquet with yellow plums and a little touch of nectarine, which seems even to infuse the backing acidity. Despite the richness of the fruit flavours, this is a very precise, focused wine.
Tasting note: A touch of natural exoticism sits atop notably riper aromas of peach and pear that slide into rich, full and powerful flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration and explode into a spicy, minerally and sappy finish. A classy effort that offers a completely different expression, particularly in that the flavors and finish are fleshier if less precise. A choice.

Domaine Billaud Simon, Chablis 2007
Light-Medium Bodied, Dry, White, Chardonnay, Drink now, 12.5% alc.
This is mainline, classical Chablis with plenty of weight without any feeling of heaviness. Bright, clean and perfectly poised.
“Bernard Billaud told me that 2007 was a "completely classic vintage and it's better than 2004, both in terms of overall quality and as a classically styled vintage…”
Tasting note: A completely classic Chablis nose of iodine-infused green fruit with a subtle saline influence that is also picked up by the concentrated, racy, pure and bone dry flavors that offer ample vivacity and finishing acid punch where the citrus component really shines. Fine quality at this level.

Domaine Francois Raveneau, Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 2004
Light-Medium Bodied, Dry, White, Chardonnay, Drink now or cellar, 13% alc.
“The '03s had just been bottled 2 weeks before my late June visit and while variable, there are some lovely wines though they clearly do not compare, either in style or quality, to the brilliant 2002s or 2004s…”
Tasting note: A ripe nose of orchard fruit, citrus and a lovely stony character that also displays a touch of reduction highlights the big, powerful and intense flavors that possess excellent depth of material and perhaps the best complexity of any of these 1ers. This is a racehorse with firm acidity and terrific focus and it can compete with the grands crus in 2004 as it definitely has that 'wow' factor.

Domaine Francois Raveneau, Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 2006
Light-Medium Bodied, Dry, White, Chardonnay, Drink now or cellar, 13% alc.
Tasting note: A gentle touch of wood highlights airy yet slightly riper high-toned and admirably pure aromas of white flower, pear and quinine that gives way to supple, sweet, mouth coating and impressively concentrated flavors that exude a marvelous intensity on the long, powerful and driving finish supported by a solid acid spine. Definitely worth a look if you can find it but unlike most '06s, be prepared to have at least some patience as this is unusually firm for the vintage.
